Golf Fore Missions

So, just an update to tell anyone who's interested... my weekend was pretty uneventful.

My husband, on the other hand, played golf on Sunday for our church's annual Golf Fore Missions fundraiser, and his team won 1st place!!! His team actually tied at 59 with another team, but after the tie-breaker his team won! Yay!!

Going running today... it's hot and the air is so thick you can practically taste it. I can't wait!!! I'm so glad that I can finally just throw on a tank top, slather on some SPF 30, and get out the door. I hate having to wear layers, and I hate searching for my headband, gloves, and other cold weather gear. This is my type of weather!

Is it Friday yet????

This week seems to be dragging by... Today seems pretty slow in particular. It's 2pm (and yes I should be working) but I feel like it should be 4-4:30. I think a big part of it stems from the fact that I didn't leave the office for lunch. And I spent my lunch hour at my desk, catching up on the episode of Bones that I missed on Monday. So I have been at my desk way too long!

Anyway, Tuesday I went and ran with my group for the first time in a couple months!!! It felt so good to get out in the sunshine and fresh air (plenty of fresh air... in 30mph gusts). And I got to see all my people! I've missed them all so much and it was good to catch up with them! So now that I've made the first leap, today is supposed to be another group run day - and of course it's crappy and supposed to start storming right around the time we're supposed to start running. Now don't get me wrong - I thoroughly enjoy running in a nice summer rain - but it's not summer and it's likely to be storming - complete with lightening and the possibility of hail. No thank you! Of course that's still a few hours away - a lot can change between now and then!

Yesterday I had a checkup with my orthodontist and I still need a few "minor" adjustments. Apparently his definition of minor and my definition are not the same. When I can't bite into a soft puffy french fry from Braums without excruciating pain, we have extended beyond "minor". And since we are still making adjustments, I can't move up my removal date. (see my blog from March 10 for more info). Basically, I will still not be able to eat corn-on-the-cob on Memorial Day... GRRRR.

I gotta get back to work. Later!

New week...

Well, it's the start of a new week, and I'm feeling pretty refreshed. I opted to stay home in the comfort of my warm bed most of the weekend. With all of the storms lately, I haven't been sleeping well, and it was nice to just relax and sleep in and rest.

Last week, I heard that Trisha Yearwood would be signing copies of her new cookbook at Barnes & Noble on Sunday at 2pm. I had been wanting to get a copy of the cookbook anyway, so I figured I would just do it on Sunday and get it signed. I had never been to book signing, so I had no clue what I was getting myself into!

I showed up around 1:30, after Church and lunch and there was a note on the door that they would begin distributing tickets at 11:00 am. Tickets??? What???

I made my way inside to find it a complete madhouse! I had no idea that so many people were interested in Trisha Yearwood - and many of them had 2+ copies of the cookbook. As I attempt to make my way to the register to buy a copy of the book, I overhear someone leaving the register tell the other members of her party that they are sold out of tickets and that people started lining up at 8:30 that morning. Wow! I like Trisha and all, and it would have been nice to have her autograph my book, but it's not THAT important. I decided to browse around the store for a little while (the side that was actually maneuverable) and waited for the checkout line to go down. All-in-all, I was probably there for 30-40 minutes. In that time, they had only called ticket holders in group A to get in the signing line, and I know the groups went to at least F. People actually waited there ALL DAY!!! There is no person/celebrity/band, etc that I would ever spend that much time on. I have better things to do with my time - like sleep! Anyway, I did buy the book, and I'm glad it did because it's a beautiful cookbook with some great recipes that I can't wait to try.

Of course, I seem to be a collector of cookbooks. I have dozens of other cookbooks that I can't wait to try out too, so I'm making a commitment to myself (and my husband - he just doesn't know it yet!) to try at least one new recipe each week. And not all from the same cookbook, either. I have to spread the love among all my lovely cookbooks! I'm getting tired of eating the same things week after week, and I have no one to blame but myself. So we'll see how it goes!

So, here I am at the start of a new week, feeling refreshed, with a lot to look forward to. Hopefully the weather will be decent so I can get out and run. Wednesday, I go to the orthodontist for my final check (hopefully) and then my next appointment after that will be for removal! Saturday brings the Remember the Ten run in Stillwater, which is near and dear to the heart of my sister-in-law, as one of the people in the plane crash was a friend that she grew up with. If I don't run, I would at least like to go out and support her as she runs. And Sunday brings Golf Fore Missions, an annual fundraiser/golf tournament put on by our church to raise money for various missions throughout the year. I don't play golf, but I will be running the registration table and hopefully getting to know a few more people from our church!

I'll let ya know how everything goes!!

Weather... Grrr...

Well, so much for my running break being over. I was really looking forward to getting back on track (back on trail, actually) with my running, and I still am looking forward to it, but the weather is not cooperating with me! If it's not hailing, then its freezing, or the wind gusts are enough to knock me down. This has definitely been an interesting week!

Here is it mid-April, and while I expect tornado weather this time of year, it is actually supposed to freeze this weekend - ridiculous!! A friend of mine is doing the Heart Walk tomorrow morning, which I've considered doing, and some of my running people are going to Stillwater for a 25K/50K trail race which I'd like to check out. I have no interest in running it this year, but maybe volunteering at an aid-station would be fun. Of course then we're back to the freezing again - I've become quite a weenie lately. If it's not sunny and above 75, then I don't want to be outside. I am definitely a summer girl and it can't get here fast enough!

So anyway, the point of this is that the Masters is on this weekend so my hubby will be camped out in front of the TV and I have to find something to keep myself occupied. I just wish I could think of something that doesn't involve 3 layers of clothing!

I finally ran!!!!!!

So, after my marathon in November, I was injured and couldn't really run. It was KILLING me. I hated every minute that I couldn't run. After a few weeks off, I went back out to start running again and I hated every minute that I was running. I think it was a combination of being scared that I would get hurt again, suffering from major burnout from all of my pre-marathon mileage, tired of running up and down the same trail, wanting to sleep in on Saturdays, and not wanting to keep turning down invites from my friends because "I have to run". The weather certainly played a part too. I really needed a break!

And I am now pleased to say that the break is over! I went out after work yesterday to a strech of the trail that I had never been on, and while I only got in a couple miles, it felt great! It was really hard, but great!! I don't ever remember having such a hard time with a 2 mile run, but I should be back up to a some decent milage in no time.

I just have to allow myself to not feel guilted into running, and not feel guilty when I don't want to suffer frostbite, wake up way too early, or miss out on something with my friends/family. Running is part of my life, but I can't revolve my life around running.

And with that being said - I've decided on my next marathon!!! May 2009

Check it out! It looks amazing!!
